Class Information
In Class Australia our teachers encourage us to always try our best and never give up. We look after our friends and celebrate our achievements together.
Our Australia class teacher is Miss Luczyszyn, we also have our amazing teaching assistants Miss Lewington and Miss O’connor.
Attendance
We want to give your child the very best start in life, and good attendance is the key
to their success.
When your child is here every day, they aren’t just learning—they are building their future. Coming to primary school regularly is vital because it:
• Builds strong foundations: Early reading, writing, and math skills are taught in daily steps. Missing just one day can leave a gap in their learning.
• Creates lasting friendships: Being in class every day helps children bond with classmates, play together, and build social confidence.
• Develops great life habits: Arriving on time teaches children routines that will help them succeed all the way into adulthood.
• Boosts confidence: Children who attend regularly feel more secure because they know exactly what to expect in their daily routine.
To support all of the above, we will regularly monitor your child’s attendance and
speak to you about any patterns or concerns we come across.

Reading
We hope to become super readers but we need your help. Please try and read with your child every night or work on the sounds which have been sent home, which are linked to our learning in school. Really focus on asking questions about their book as this will help them with their reading comprehension. When children are ready they will begin to access our reading scheme which allows them to choose books at the right level and take quizzes to check their understanding.
Reading books will be changed on a Friday, children should be reading for atleast 10 minutes everyday at home, this should be recorded in the reading records and both reading records and books should be brought into school everyday.
Uniform, water bottles and equipment.
At Gwladys Street Community Primary and Nursery School, we take great pride in our school uniform. It helps our students feel a sense of belonging and ensures they are ready to focus on their learning. Correct school uniform will be monitored and challanged if not appropriate. Waterbottles can be school – branded which can be bought from the office, all waterbottles to have a sports cap.
No rucksacks or large bags – they will be sent back home if brought into school.
No personal pencil cases or stationary.
Home Learning:
Homework will be given out on a Friday, and due to be returned on Thursday the following week. The homework will be set on Purplemash, if your child can not access Purplemash please let the class teacher know and paper copies will be provided. Each child will also be provided with a Numbots log in that they can access at home.
Children are expected to read for 10 minutes everyday at home.
PE
Year 2 PE day is Wednesday.
Pupils must wear their PE kit into school. For outdoor PE, pupils can wear a tracksuit. Other kit can be a white T-shirt, black shorts/leggings and pumps or trainers.

Use of social media platforms as communications tools
- Where staff use social media platforms (such as Seesaw. Class Dojo and others), we will expect a professional, courteous and productive dialogue between staff and parents.
- Parents/carers are encouraged to use Class Dojo to message teachers and open a positive dialogue or contact the school office or meet class teachers at class doors.
- Staff reserve the right NOT to respond to messages which are received out of normal school hours, which are sent via Class Dojo
- Staff reserve the right NOT to respond to messages which are inappropriate, offensive, threatening or abusive.
- Parents/carers MUST only message using polite, courteous and respectful language
- Photos may be shared between parents and staff through school’s approved social media platforms – if they are appropriate, non-offensive and celebratory
- Staff reserve the right to log out of school approved social media platforms after school hours.
- Staff will use our platforms to share news, learning, updates, key notices and to share achievements and celebrations with parents/ carers.
- Parents are encouraged to ONLY message on Class Dojo between the hours of 30 and 16.30 on school days.
- Parents must be aware that responses on Class Dojo may be delayed whilst teachers conduct their daily duties and statutory tasks.
- Parents are discouraged from messaging staff on Class Dojo on weekends, after 16.30 and on school holidays. Messages received within these times may not be responded to.
- Teachers may choose to reply to messages outside of school hours, but these decisions rest with individual teachers and may change.
