Welcome to Costa Rica!

Class Information
Thank you for visiting Costa Rica’s webpage.
We have lots of fun and exciting things to learn while you are in Year Four. In our lovely Year Four team we have Miss Doherty, Miss Heath and Miss Gordon. Please look at this page throughout the year to share this learning with your family.
Attendance:
We want to give your child the very best start in life, and good attendance is the key to their success.
When your child is here every day, they aren't just learning—they are building their future. Coming to primary school regularly is vital because it:
Builds strong foundations: Early reading, writing, and math skills are taught in daily steps. Missing just one day can leave a gap in their learning.
Creates lasting friendships: Being in class every day helps children bond with classmates, play together, and build social confidence.
Develops great life habits: Arriving on time teaches children routines that will help them succeed all the way into adulthood.
Boosts confidence: Children who attend regularly feel more secure because they know exactly what to expect in their daily routine.
To support all of the above, we will regularly monitor your child’s attendance and speak to you about any patterns or concerns we come across.
Thank you for your continued support in helping your child arrive on time and ready to learn every single day. Together, we can help them thrive!
Multiplication check
In Year Four, the children will complete a multiplication check. Therefore, it is very important that children are practising their times tables frequently. Remember to use Times Tables Rock Stars at home.

PE
Costa Rica will have PE every Wednesday. We will have lots of fun practicing different skills and techniques. Children are to come into school in their PE kit.

Reading Books
Please ensure your child is reading daily at home and return reading books and reading journals once they have a good understanding of the book. They will then complete an Accelerated Reader quiz to assess their understanding of the book.
Homework
Homework will be given out on a Friday and to be handed to the class teacher on a Monday. Handwork will be provided via Purple Mash. Please see your child’s Class Teacher if you find any issues or problems with this.
Water Bottles
Your child must come to school with a school water bottle each day. You can purchase this at the office.

School Uniform
All children must attend school in their full school uniform, including black school shoes. Children should also not bring large bags/rucksacks into school and no personal pencil cases or stationary.
Our Curriculum and Enrichment:
This year, Year 4 will enjoy a wide range of exciting learning opportunities. In Geography, they will explore earthquakes and deserts, while Science will focus on electricity. In PE, children will develop their skills in swimming and gymnastics. They will explore pop music through Mamma Mia, develop their drawing skills in Art, and learn Spanish, including vocabulary linked to the weather.
Alongside their classroom learning, children will enjoy enriching experiences, including a tour of Liverpool’s famous sights and a Deva Roman Experience in Chester, bringing their learning to life through real-world experiences.
If you have any problems or queries, please contact the office directly by telephone.
We are going to have a brilliant year in Costa Rica!
Miss Doherty
